Lot 812
Attractive Gilt Mantle Clock, with Classically-inspired Decor. France, c. later 19th century. The well crafted and stylish elements comprising the clock revolve about the allegory of shipping, commerce, and profit. A goddess, perhaps Tyche or Fortuna, sits holding an overflowing horn of plenty and a money pouch; her hand above an ornate trident and oar. Below, the clock's front panel with scene of Mercury standing in ship, and two men discussing monetary arrangements. Gilt elements sharp and finely preserved, with most of clock complete. Movement missing a rear cover, and perhaps a few pieces. Glass cover also needed. A very attractive time piece, well worth restoring. Height: 15-1/2"; width: 10".
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
